Our Curriculum

Our curriculum isn't guesswork. It's built on insights from program directors at Harvard, Rush University, and Brown University, drawn from their own guidance on what separates matched applicants from those who go unmatched. Every session milestone, signal strategy, and rotation playbook reflects how top programs actually make their decisions.

Our Mentors

Guided by someone who just matched.

Every OrthoMatched student is paired with a current orthopaedic resident at their target program. Not a generic coach. Someone who sat in the exact interviews you are about to face. Mentor names have been altered to protect the privacy and identity of our mentors.

Matched HSS — I still can't believe it.

“My mentor matched HSS two years ago. He knew exactly what their program director was looking for. Nothing in my interview surprised me.”

Mayo was always the dream.

“OrthoMatched started working with me in MS2. By the time I applied I had three publications, two strong away rotations, and a mentor who had matched Mayo the year before.”

Research changed everything for me.

“I had no idea how important research was for ortho until my mentor broke it down in our first session. We built a full research strategy from scratch and I had two abstracts by the time I applied.”

The away rotation coaching was worth it alone.

“My mentor told me exactly which programs run strong aways for my profile and how to perform when I got there. I got a letter from my top program directly because of it.”

Started MS1. Matched top 5.

“Most people told me to worry about residency in third year. OrthoMatched told me to start building my application in first year. That difference is why I matched where I did.”

My parents made the best investment.

“I was skeptical at first. But my mentor had been through the exact process I was facing — at the exact program I wanted. Nothing surprised me on interview day. I matched my number one.”

FAQ

Common questions.

Everything you need to know about OrthoMatched and the orthopaedic surgery match process.

OrthoMatched is built for MD students at US allopathic medical schools who are targeting an orthopaedic surgery residency through the NRMP match. The program is most impactful when started in MS1 or MS2, though we also work with MS3 students who need intensive application season support.

Our curriculum is informed by program directors at Harvard, Rush University, and Brown University — including their specific guidance on research productivity, signal allocation, letter selection, away rotation strategy, and why strong candidates fail to match. We have translated that insider knowledge into a structured four-year mentorship system that addresses every variable a student can control.

Every OrthoMatched mentor is a current orthopaedic surgery resident — PGY-2 through PGY-5 — at a top US program. They matched within the last two to three years and have direct, current knowledge of exactly what program directors are looking for. You are not getting advice from someone a decade removed from the process.

As early as possible. The orthopaedic surgery match is decided by research output, away rotation performance, and relationships built over years — not weeks. Students who start in MS1 or MS2 have a dramatically stronger application than those who begin preparing in MS3. If you are already in MS3, it is not too late — but the work starts immediately.

After your discovery call we conduct a detailed intake to understand your target programs, academic profile, research background, and goals. We then match you with the best-fit lead ortho resident mentor from our network within two weeks. Your lead mentor will also help pair you with other resident mentors and resident assistants to ensure you have support in every facet of the matching journey.

You have structured 1:1 sessions with your mentor on a regular cadence — frequency increases significantly during application season and interview season. Between sessions you have unlimited messaging access to your mentor for quick questions, document reviews, and guidance. Every session has a purpose tied to where you are in the ortho match timeline.

Most residency advising services are generalist platforms that start working with students in MS3 for application season only. OrthoMatched is built exclusively for orthopaedic surgery, starts years before applications open, and gives every student one dedicated mentor for their entire journey — not a rotating pool of advisors covering every specialty.

No. OrthoMatched is an independent private mentorship service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with NRMP, ERAS, the AAMC, or any residency program.

Book a free 30-minute discovery call. We will learn about where you are in your journey, explain the program in detail, and tell you honestly whether OrthoMatched is the right fit. No commitment required.
